Game Preview: A Look At AC Milan’s Distant Victories Over Juventus Ahead Of The Weekend Tie

Pinterest LinkedIn Viber

AC Milan have been terrible against Juventus since the 2012/13 season winning only twice in the league in that time whilst losing twelve times in the process. Milan have also lost two Coppa Italia finals to the Bianconeri in that time.

Milan play Juve in Turin this weekend and have not won a single game there since the 2010/11 season when Gennaro Gattuso scored the winner as Milan prevailed 1-0. Thus, Milan have never left the new Allianz Stadium with a single point.

The last victory in the league came in October 2016 when Milan Primavera midfielder Manuel Locatelli scored a rocket into the top right corner at the San Siro as Milan stole the game 1-0. Suso, Bonaventura, Romagnoli and Donnarumma featured in that game.

Two months later, Milan prevailed over Juventus again in Jeddah in the Supercoppa Italiana after a 1-1 draw in regular time that led to a penalty shoot out. Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala missed their penalties to gift Milan their first piece of silverware since 2011.

This is the first time Milan will be facing Juventus under Maurizio Sarri but it’s important to note that Milan have never beaten a Sarri side, they couldn’t beat him at Napoli nor at Empoli. Juventus currently sit atop the league with 29 points while Milan are in twelfth place with 13 points. Juventus have conceded the least amount of goals while Milan have struggled to score and have the fewest goals of any team in last season’s top six. It will be a tough game but Milan have nothing to lose and should leave it all out on the field.

As always, Forza Milan!
