Stefano Pioli brings “different ideas and concepts of football” to Milan, but admits time is short to make those changes stick and has a special dedication.
The former Inter and Fiorentina Coach was appointed today to replace Marco Giampaolo, whose tenure lasted just seven games and a club record 111 days.
“A new Coach arrives, certainly one with different ideas and concepts of football,” Pioli told Milan TV.
“We have to build our identity, there are games to play and that means we have only limited time to work. We’ve got to make the most of every instant we have on that training field, get to know each other and become a team as quickly as possible.
“I have clear ideas on what we need to do. Now we have to concentrate on the next step and not spend too much time looking back, as it wouldn’t help anyone.
“I have to immediately ensure the players understand what I expect from them, both in terms of positioning and behaviour. I know that I have to push this side to do more, because clearly we’ve got to do better.”
There was also a thought for Fiorentina captain Davide Astori, who passed away in March 2018 of a heart condition, but who spent his formative years in the Milan academy.
“I am sure that at this moment Davide is pleased to know I am here at Milan,” added Pioli.
“I was fortunate enough to get to know him. He’ll always remain in my thoughts, because he was a special person.”
